Greenhouses
We use a fully integrated computer network that consistently monitors our irrigation system and directs the heating and lighting systems, cooling vents and fans. Screens positioned on the glass ceiling provide shade for plants during the summer while helping to conserve energy in the winter. Conservation is needed due to the use of lighting during the winter months to continue year round quality of product life. This system ensures the ideal climate and optimum nutrient balance for growing commercial cut gerberas.

At Hollandia, we believe that growing means developing products and programs that limit our environmental impact. Our hot water boiler system uses woodchips from pine damaged trees for fuel. This is environmentally beneficial as we use renewable bio-mass instead of oil and it also aids in the removal of infected forests. This also brings economic benefits to the affected local forestry communities by adding value to otherwise unmarketable wood. The efficiency of our hot water boiler system allows us to use a by-product, CO2, which is a critical element in the gerbera growing process. CO2 is very beneficial to both the production and the quality of our gerbera.

Hollandia is also a pioneer in the production of hydroponic gerberas using sophisticated fertilization and irrigation equipment. Our modern greenhouses and heating systems allow us to control temperature and humidity at optimal levels. As a result, the gerbera’s have a longer vase life and cleaner foliage, while reducing the use of pesticides and limiting waste material.
